Day 12
January 12, 2021
Zoe Tilton's Birthday

This is the first Barred Owl I have ever shot.  There was no light, dusk had just begun and he was camouflaged at the edge of the road.  The only reason I saw him was that he was flying when I came around the corner and I knew he had landed, and I found him tucked up in those limbs. It was thrilling.  Once again it shows my double purpose photographing; to document what I see and to create something aesthetic.  This is the first.

I was already thinking about including my bird graph today because I saw birds that I don't usually see in January like this flock of robins perched in these trees.  I wasn't even sure they were robins until I downloaded the pictures and could see the orange breasts.  I also saw a Red Bellied Nuthatch in a cherry tree in front of Staples.

Today's ride was cloudy, it seemed as though it would snow at any given moment, but it was 40 degrees.  We did not get any rain or snow, just this deep grey.

And the rookery looked like a snow field surrounded by cat tails.  There was no wind, there were no birds, nor otter, nor anything leaving a trail on the snow.  At the farm the animals were all indoors.  Fresh hay sat in the feeding trough, but no creature was eating.

And after my conversation with the owl there was only one streak of pink beyond the hills.  I looked for my hawk friends and I searched the woods for bobcat or lynx.  Nothing.

The veil between the worlds seems
very thin this week.   2 friends had people die yesterday, the flag is
flying at half mast.  There is an eerie feeling and a sense of unknowing
partially caused by solar flares and planets conjoining.  I am oddly nervous
and am keeping a little protected.  I am sorry for the losses people are
suffering.  Please take care of yourselves and stay safe.  You are loved.
