Day 18

January 18, 2021

Some sun, some sleet, a lot of clouds

There were 4 pair of Hooded Mergansers in the canal today.  They are very active and happy ducks; a lot of fun to watch.   There were a lot of Canada geese in all the riverways.  The Cove was full of geese and swans and gulls.  Couldn't see close enough to determine different kinds of gulls, but they seemed to be in large gatherings with some species mixing, but a lot of geese were by themselves.  There was a big flock of mallards, too.

I need to invent a bird graph that fits into my blog page.  My present graph is too unwieldy and doesn't inspire visual continuity.

The clouds were the most interesting thing about the scenery.  I jumped in the car right before sunset and just went down the street to catch the show.

It was pretty inspiring.  The colors were rich and the clouds took on different tones.

I drove around and around the Cavalry Cemetery and caught the sunset  looking in all directions.

I had planned to watch a couple of presentations for MLK Jr. Day, but I'm afraid I didn't have a real working brain, so I skipped them all.  I tried to meditate on non violence though.  I thought a lot about whether we can fight violence with non-violence.  I do not have it in me to physically fight anyone.  I think I would protect someone I loved who was being harmed, but I truly believe the violence does not solve or fix anything.  I sat with that and tried to imagine what the strategy of coming at combat non violently would look like.  That is how I celebrated King.
