Day 52
February 21, 2021
Happy Birthday, David Sharken

I had a very different ride today.  It began with a visit with Jack who really wanted me to go outside and throw his ball for him, but I admit, I did not do the friendly thing.  I did give him lots of pats.  He knows I love him.

From there I drove up to Warwick where it was white.  My new interest in tracks was piqued.  I thought I saw bear, but a neighbor pointed out to me that he didn't think the bear was able to open the garden gate and walk in.  These tracks surely pointed to that happening.  LOL

Then I drove through Gill and into Turners to visit the canal which was filled with walkers and dogs and babies and birds.  Again groups of swan, gulls, geese and ducks.  There was also something swimming far away from me.  I took 6 photos of it and cannot make out what it is.  Could it be an eel?  Would some type of reptile be out in this icy water?  No.  I have no idea what it was.

There were also no birds of prey around today.  I even drove around to the river and saw none, no hawk, no eagle. There are so many nests in the trees lining the river, but no birds claiming them.

So then I drove up to the rookery.  Again, no bird activity, but there was plenty of farm activity.  The guys had been given a treat by neighbors and were eating up acorns.   They were not at all interested in me and the camera but when the neighbors came by on their walk they all stopped to greet them.  There was no new snack.  They all looked healthy and happy today.  I still want to know what the gustation length of a goat is.

I have lined up three people to do my interview with.  I will post them every other day.  Tomorrow will be my second person.  I realize that my belief in collecting personal stories for the sake of building knowledge and understanding is what is driving me to do this small project.  Doing last night's interview with Billie made me look up the work of David Bloome in literacy, language and culture.  If you are interested in reading about his work, Google him and look at the social constructs that get developed with story telling.   Billie even says that talking about gender helps them to feel more confident.  It is the rest of the audience that I want to engage so that they become more knowledgeable and comfortable with the evolution of gender.  I haven't worked with David since 1991 or 2, but I really want to read up on what has been happening in the field.   And I hope this small blog project is helpful.
