Day 39

A Beautiful Day

A woman got out of her car at the canal and threw some food onto the ice in front of her for the single purpose of getting the gulls to come fly in front of her so she could take photos. One came and then another and then all of a sudden there were 15.  I stopped behind her and opened my passenger window.  They began to fly by my window and just stare inside.  I took pictures.  They were so close that my camera didn't always focus. I was not afraid of them, but they really were being gulls.

The patterns in the ice were really interesting.  There were a lot of paw prints and a lot of bird prints.  There was also some wind that added to the stripes on the ice.

I would love to go to the ocean soon, but as long as I can't, I have the Cove.

And the hill and rookery were stunning, it was only 27 degrees, but the fresh snow from yesterday made the surfaces perfect for shadows.

By 3 there were a lot of birds around.  Three small hawk circled over the house for a while.  The angle of the sun by then was hitting them directly across their wingspan.  I couldn't get a picture, but their underbellies were white and the tails barely red.

And the woodpeckers were calling away.  I love being greeted by their noises.  They feel very interactive to me.  I don't know if they were saying hi to me or telling the hawks to go away, or if they were warning all the smaller birds that the hawks were around.  Apparently, they do that around feeders.

And the sunset was less dramatic, but still, it was moving.  I parked in the Cavalry Cemetery and slowly but clearly the sky went pink all around me.  Again there were pawprints, and human prints, and lines in the snow.  It was all quite lovely today.
I have to tell you I am rather tired of the pandemic and I am tired of not knowing what day it is or being able to meet a friend for tea.  And I am tired of being slightly frightened by things I enjoy, like swimming.  I miss the pool, but I haven't gotten my nerve back up to go to the pool.  I have to call and make an appointment to get vaccinated.  And I have to find the motivation to have follow through and finish my heron project.   It is scheduled to go up on the walls at The Lava Center for May 1st.  So I have to find some way to schedule working time into my routine.   Meanwhile, I will continue to take pictures that make me smile.

  2. Traveling from site to site feels adventurous in my opinion. Wrapping your head around how to navigate your way through the pandemic is a mystery. Certainly brings a sense of wonder and sense of new purposes..Keep the photos coming please.

  3. That's awesome! I have to show you the Liberty Mutual seagull commercial! I will post it on your page. I too am sick of the pandemic & floundering on being motivated to use my time wisely. And I miss out tea time terribly!!! Feels like I m sinking into the abyss.
