Day 61
March 2, 2021
I rarely am afraid of the weather, but there really is something about high winds that is disconcerting.

I ate lunch with a flock of bluebirds today.  There were at least ten of them flitting around.

Drove to the rookery a new way and drove through Colrain.  There was not a cloud in the sky and the wind was settling down.
It was 27 degrees at 2 p.m. at the rookery.  Everything was frozen over again and wiped clean by the wind.

I started printing the photos for the heron show in May.  I love returning to this project.  The colors now are so opposite of the colors in August.  All of that hazy green about to turn red is white and blue with bare grey trunks.  But in the prints they are lush with greens and earthy browns and reds, and the blue is the back of the herons or the water on a bright sunny day.

The world was clean today.  Things sparkled.  It was cold, but it was bright.  I heard some woodpeckers and I saw my rabbit friend, but no big birds nor livestock.  They were all tucked away warm somewhere.

Here's a poem by a friend of mine.  He sent it to me a couple weeks ago and it seemed appropriate to share it this week.

I drink in the moon

but tonight She's distant

    or waning

    craning my neck

        to meet her gaze

Yet even the stars

        are hiding

    or finding me

not quite ready or ripe

    to swallow

        THEIR light.
