Day 74
March 15, 2021
Beware the Ides of March

It was really cold out there today, but the sun was shining and the skies were filled with hawks.  I photographed at least 8 separate red tailed.  And there were a couple others I could not readily identify.  I pulled off the road on top of the hill just before Bardswell Ferry and photographed the whole vista, horses, old farm stuff, hawks and fields.  I just stood up there and let it overwhelm me, flushed away my depression.

The grounds are the same colors as the birds of prey at the moment. But the birds are so spectacular in their power and their grace.  I saw four soaring together across from this field.

And the horses were away from the barn and curious about what I was up to.  the entire time I was standing there, they watched me, absolutely still, no movements at all.  Their coats were glossy and the sun was shining on them.  If there had not been a fence there, I think they would have come to find out what exactly I was doing.

What I was really trying to do is photograph soaring birds, but my camera won't focus fast enough.  I can't figure out if it is my error or the camera's but the minute I point it up to the bird it goes out of focus.

Believe it or not there are 2 hawks in that picture, in that blue, but very far away.  They flew on out to the other side of the fields over the pines.  I have a feeling when I left they came back and that fields were full of hawk food.  I kept catching glimpses of moving leaves and thinking they were rodents, and I'm sure the hawks could see much better than I could.

Good bye winter.  The Ides are on their way out and so are you.  They say there maybe one more storm, but once this cold pushes through, the flowers and buds are gonna win.  And that means the heron are right around the corner.  I can't wait.

I  do have a need to hear that everyone is ok, so let me know you are fine or if not, let me know you are not.
