Day 77
March 18, 2021
Rainy Day
I love this tree and it usually has a cool bird on it. I'm going to ask if I can photograph it from a different side so I'm not taking pictures of this family's house, too.
There were five cardinal in this lawn. I think that is the most I've seen in one space in W. Mass. In Virginia I saw 20 or 30 in groups, but I have not seen that here. Usually we have one couple nested close by and the male comes and talks in the morning.
My list today is: pigeon, crows, robins, cardinals, junco, titmouse, blue jay and ducks flying overhead. It was 41 degrees at the rookery and raining at 4. I figure by next week the colors will be coming back and the white will be gone entirely.
The spirit is back in the tree by the llamas. She is gorgeous.
I think there are spirits in this tree, too. These old maples that line the road have wisdom pouring from them as well as sap. I want to do a book on the spirits in this row of trees.
I'm waiting for the muskrats to show their faces. I'm not sure how early I saw them last year. Glancing back through photos it appears that I saw them around the 3rd week in April. I am going to pay attention to some subtleties this year because there must be a lot of growth happening in the next month that is not blatant.
It was a short and rainy ride, but it was full of birds. Glad I made the effort. Snow tonight, ice in the morning, but by afternoon Spring is going to blast in for the weekend. Can't wait.
