Day 86
March 27, 2021
Pairing up
I woke up early this morning and got a few things done. By 10:30 I was ready to go shoot the rookery, chafing at the bit, shall we say. It was beautiful up there and by the time I left there were 10 heron. There was one pair of Common merganser and several hawks flew by. The noise was kind of unbelievable. I recorded. a Northern Shrike. Saw some smaller birds, but was so enthralled with the big ones that I didn't catch what was around me except the red winged bb. I stayed until almost noon and when I was duly frustrated with the inadequacies of my camera equipment, I left.
They were definitely deciding who was with who, 2 or 3 clumped around a nest and then there would be a take off and circling and re-landing. Lots of noise, lots of heron noise, it's such an old sound.
I think in all I saw 5 hawk, a young eagle, and 10 heron.

sunset begins
|
I took my dinner down to the pool to watch the sunset and the moon rise tonight.
And then I went over to the college to see if I could catch some longer views. The colors were like November tonight and the temperature was dropping quickly. The peepers and the starlings and ducks and I don't know what else were really talking up a storm. Were they singing to the moon?

Quite a beautiful night. I think we're due for 2 days of rain starting later tonight so I am really pleased I saw what I saw today. The moon was almost translucent until I got home and it was dark enough to see the circle. Storm coming.
