Day 90
March 31, 2021
Bye bye March

My only ride today was a trip up to the rookery with David.  There were 10 heron.  At the end of the season last September 7 nests stood up in that row of trees.  Today there were 5 still standing, 1 being reconstructed and the possibility of a 7th one appearing.  The 10 birds were flying in and out and occasionally squawking at each other.  Back in business

I also heard that one of the neighbors bought up the land to preserve it so that the space can be available to the birds forever.  It made me so happy.

The common merganser pair and the Canada geese pair were the only ducks and geese visible from my vantage point.  I think that the other ducks are further back behind the nest trees.  I wonder how close mergansers nest to each other.

Dreary day, but not too cold.  The rookery is such a wonderful place to just be.

Bird list of the day: crow, pigeons, blue jay, house sparrow, red winged b.b., heron, Canada geese, common merganser, starling, hawk, vulture, cardinal, swallows, and heard a woodpecker.
