Day 103
April 13, 2021
Invitation to the show

The invitation was designed and made by Ember Tilton.  It is an invitation to my show, Words from the Rookery.

The red tailed hawk couple were soaring high when I arrived this morning.  They were playing, I bet their eggs hatched and they are beginning to bring food home to the nest.  It was great to see them.  I looked for my neighbor red tails too, but not yet.

Look at that red in the back part of the wetland.  The sun was so brilliant today it just made that red pop.  It was 59 degrees at 11 a.m. and stunning.

There were lots of birds on the water's edge.  I looked for turtles, I felt there must be some, perfect turtle conditions.

The sky was exciting and moving in the opposite direction than it usually is.

There's a Canada goose nest and a goose sitting in the middle of this photo.  Eventually 2 geese came out and went for a swim.  They seem to make their nests in the flood plains.  I hope the nests float when need be.

This big guy went to the top.  At one point he drew his head up as high as he could looking just like a top branch.

All 9 nests were active.  Most of the chattering was goose chatter.  There were some mallards flying.  I learned today that the mergansers nest in the trees up in woodpeckers holes or other crevices.

I met with a friend I haven't seen in at least 8 months  Made me really happy.  We talked a long time outside and said hi to friends like normal people with masks on.   And then I took a little ride.

I hadn't been to the canal in 8 days.  There were a few swans and one goose couple.  No other birds.
And when I got home that beautiful sunny day was done, but there were 10 or so birds high in the trees, mourning dove, robins, titmouse, not sure what else.  The bird chatter was in my back yard.  Quite delightful.
