Day 109
April 19, 2021
It was a bird day.

Absolutely beautiful day for birds.  I took a pretty long drive today.  The weather was erratic, very New England, and perfect for birds.

Today's list: mourning dove, pigeons, robins, blue jays, chirping sparrow, mallards, Wood ducks, Common merganser, heron, turkey vulture, black vulture, red tailed hawk, red winged black bird, crow, black bird, cardinals, gold finch, starlings and kestrel.

Look at this female wood duck, isn't she great?  Does anyone have an illustration of their nests?  They nest high.  Apparently this is a very good year for them.  I love it.

All of the flowereing trees in Greenfield have bloomed.  The grass is green.  But there are still some stark trees.  College Drive is flooding and is a perfect bird sanctuary.  These cardinals were jumping from one tree to the next.

The Green River was rushing.  A fisherman was standing under the falls in hip boots.  And the storm clouds were soaring.

I saw a lot of vultures, both black and turkey.  This guy was hanging out on the road eating squirrel.  He just wanted me to pass so he could get back to his snack.

It was raining in the rookery, but not on me.  The rain just kept ebbing and flowing.  It was between 54 and 60 degrees depending on where the sun was.  A perfect day for ducks, I say.

Later I went out in search of the rainbow.  I never saw one but I guess there were a few uptown.  The sunset kept going in and out of clouds and being different colors and then the wind picked up and was whipping the swing around.  Drama in New England, for sure.
