Day 91
April 1, 2021
April Fool's Day
The tree spirits were out today. The rain during the night soaked the trees and in the greyness of the morning they all popped. They were beautiful
The rookery was full of action. The birds are creating nests, repairing and making new and they are claiming their summer homes.
There were wood ducks swimming around with the Canada goose couple and the common merganser pair. There were more red winged bbs and swallows are arriving. I could hear the titmouse and the chickadee, but I didn't see either. I did see robins and a cardinal. At home the pigeons were active, too.
This one may have been looking for a new tree to build in. I think he or she flew into the community a couple of times, but came back out to the sides.
There are 10 adult birds and 5 completed nests. I think 2 more being made which leads me to believe more heron maybe on their way. I think two of the nests have consistent sitters. Nest #2 is the one I thought the original 2 birds lay ground in. We'll see in 55 days whether I'm right or not.
I want to figure out identifying markers and try to name them. hmmmm I first have to figure out gender markers, and I think each head is slightly different. Coloring is so fluid because of how light hits the feathers, but there are head markings to memorize.
I didn't really take a ride today because I had errands to run. So at some point I made the decision to go get 2 new goldfish. I used to have a lot of fish. But it's been 10 years. I got 2 butterfly gold fish babies. I messaged EJ with their pictures, and they named them. Pictured here is Cryses. Means gold. The other's name is Argyros. That means silver. What color do you think he is?
They seem to be adapting ok. Cryses is more active than Argyros. But they both ate this evening. Makes me happy.
I can't wait until Poets Seat is open again so we can watch the sunset from up high. All in all I had a nice day.
