Day 99
April 9, 2021
Happy Birthday, Barb.

Today was my friend Jay's 90th birthday.  When I asked her what she wanted to do on her birthday she said she wanted to go with me to the rookery.  Late this afternoon I took her.  It was really active up there.  I let her use the camera as binoculars so I didn't get too many pictures today.  But we got to enjoy it together and hear bird songs and we saw mergansers.  Neither the muskrats nor the otters got there before we left, but there were a lot of birds.

I do think we have 10 birds and 8 nests.

It was quite nice.  Not a lot of breeze and 74 degrees, sunny with a little coating of humidity today.  We saw one hawk come through, but he was too high to identify.  There were at least two woodpeckers and I believe one was a pileated although we never did find him.

It was kind of the perfect present for a 90 year old wise woman who loves the woods and even though she couldn't climb down into it, I set up a chair on the side of the road and we soaked in the woods.  (I actually think she could have gone further into the woods than I could and if someone else had been with us she may have gone.  She's pretty steady on her feed and walks a lot every day.)  Jay is a wonderful role model for me in many ways.

The herons were more active today than they've been so far this season.  We are definitely looking at babies in 55 days.  I can't wait to see their dinosaur offspring.

I brought Jay back to the house to enjoy my newly manicured yard and we counted nuthatch, robins, house sparrows, crows, the pigeon gang up the street and several other noise makers in the backyard.  The spruce tree is such a food source, it's amazing.

I'm tired tonight.  I warmed up leftover Chinese and have just been vegging out.  End of another week.  This one went way too quickly, and I felt like a lot got done, but that I haven't finished enough have to/s.  I wonder if that is my imagination or the reality of the situation.
