Day 122
May 2, 2021
The heron won.

A year ago EJ and I went up to this small pond and it was completely filled with frog eggs, I mean completely, jammed packed.  Today there were pollywogs in it, but hard to tell how many because it hadn't been cleaned all year.

Diane and I went up there to collect flowers.  We got some and we went to heron pond where there was a pair of geese in the center and something was wrong.  I can't tell from the photos, but it looked like one was hurt.

Later I went up to the rookery and watched  a heron defend his nest from a bald eagle.  The eagle went above the nest and then lengthened his talons and went to bomb the nest.  The heron flew up, attacking first and making horrendous noises, the eagle backed off.  Then he flew into the bare trees sat for a bit and  flew through the rookery and out.  I had my 500 on the camera, but I shot him anyway and some of them came out ok for being hand held.

The winner stands alert.

Emma got her first gear bike this week.  It's really cool and she just hopped on to it and started riding.  I was jealous.

Ate a small dinner at GCC and watched a rainbow form.  I wish I understood what was going on with the solar winds.  Somebody should explain to me what they are.  There is a different type of weather out of every window in my living room.

This is the beginning of the beaver pond at GCC.  It has become a bird haven.

And in my hawk tree I thought I saw a hawk.  But it is a very large blue jay.  Really amazingly big.  I could also hear a woodpecker near me, but I could not find it.

But today was definitely a bird day and a funky weather day.  Welcome to May, color has arrived.
