Day 189

A Day of Heron

I didn't get to the rookery until about 5:30.  It was 66 and very rainy.  When the rain did die down there were millions of mosquitos and it was hard to keep the windows open.  But it made me breath and come back to myself and focus.  It kept me from zooming off into nutty land and allowed me to ground myself anew.
The doe was near the side of the road on the way up the hill.  I stopped my car to watch her and her baby jumped out of the wildflowers and started to nurse  Momma kept her eyes on me but stopped still for a bit.  Why is it so hard to take pictures of deer?  I think my car vibrated too hard.

It all looked like a Hudson River painter's canvas.  This mist is so beautiful.

The birds are acting entirely different this year.  The nests that were empty yesterday were full again today  and with what I can't tell you; both adults and fledglings seem to be coming and going daily.

And the red winged black birds are keeping a steady presence.  I saw a few small ducks today and swallows came in and out.  I saw no birds of prey.  The herons were active.  Mostly, I breathed, in and out and in and out.  Thank you, rookery, for being there.
