Day 16
January 16, 2022
Important day

Today we started auditions at Lava Center for 5 plays that will be read over the spring.  They are all social justice issues and 4 of them were written by local writers.  My birthmother project is one of them that people are auditioning for.  I'm already learning a lot from the process.  Met new people today and spent a lot of it fascinated.

No time to take a ride and tomorrow I think will be a snow day.   But I did start with the Ekphrastic Writers and this is my first submission.

Week 1 Prompt 6

Must be something about

Montmartre that attracts, lures

me into its shadows

made on stairwells

of black cast iron,

like the gates around first floor

windows in Manhattan.

Geometric design cut by shadow

lined up, criss-crossing my brain.

Tiny steps taken

in young shoes with glossy soles.

Must be something about

women in long coats.

Their hair up in 2 braided buns

like Grandma

behind the card table,

whiskey and a Kool, dealing

out another hand of solitaire.

How solitary she was

alone in that house.

Long line of undiagnosed bipolar

and remaining addictions.

Must be something about

French culture seeping in this photograph

that haunts my heart

But lures, seizes my soul.

That spark that makes me

want to do art

makes me want to dive in.

Sucks me into that

tunnel of lines, don’t slip.
